What happens?
Each autumn, Uji’s Byōdōin Temple opens up after dark to a small number of visitors.
The iconic vermilion hall and fiery maple leaves will be bathed in light. Stroll through the grounds as the air cools and the crowds thin (relatively). Peek inside the Hoshokan Museum for Heian-period treasures like the original phoenix statues and temple bell.
