Experience the first-ever light-up event at Higashi Honganji Temple in Kyoto, where the iconic wooden halls, including the Goei-do Hall and Amida Hall, will be illuminated by stunning light art and surrounded by ikebana flower arrangements by the Ikenobō school. The event will run on October 26 and 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., with registration starting at 6 p.m. Visitors must arrive before the final admission time of 20:40 to gain entry.
Tickets
There are regular and premium tickets available for sale online.
- Regular tickets: Advance tickets are priced at ¥1,000 for adults and ¥600 for elementary school students. If you purchase on the same day, it’s ¥1,200 for adults and ¥800 for elementary school students. Get tickets here.
- Premium tickets: Premium tickets, priced at ¥80,000 each, include a seasonal kaiseki-style meal prepared by long-established Kyoto restaurant Kinobu in an area of the temple usually closed to visitors. This will be followed by a special Noh performance with English commentary. Get tickets here.

Higashi Honganji Temple is located a 7-minute walk from Kyoto Station, a 5-minute walk from Gojo Station, or a 1-minute walk from Karasuma Shichijo bus stop on the city bus.
