Nighttime cherry blossoms glow softly under lantern light at Hiokayama Park.
What happens?
Hiokayama Park in Kakogawa, Hyogo is known for its sweeping views of seasonal blooms, but in spring, it becomes especially atmospheric. Nearly 1,000 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees line the paths of this spacious city park, forming a pale pink tunnel of blossoms.
The trees are at their best usually in mid-April, and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each evening, around 300 paper lanterns or bonbori are lit for the annual illumination.
Schedule 2025
The illuminations run from Saturday, March 22 to Tuesday, May 6, each evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
How to get there
From Kobe, take the JR Sanyo Line to Kakogawa Station, transfer to the Kakogawa Line, and get off at Hiokayama Station. The park is a short walk from there.
