The iconic view of koinobori (koi carp streamers) hanging above Yoshino River at Ōboke Gorge is worth the visit for Children’s Day.
What happens?
Around 100 carp streamers are hung across the river and can be viewed by taking a short hike or from a sightseeing pleasure boat.
How to get there
The gorge is located in Iya Valley. From Okayama Station (accessible via the Shinkansen), take the Dosan Line-Limited Express (1 hour 40 minutes) and get off at Ōboke Station. You’ll need to walk 20 minutes to the site of the koinobori.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
