Beach games, traditional dancing, harbor fireworks, and live music take over Kushimoto across three summer dates.
Kushimoto is a coastal town in southern Wakayama Prefecture, at the southernmost tip of Japan’s main island.
What happens?
The festival starts with beach games and family activities at Hashikui Beach, including water-mat running, flip-flop throwing, a prize draw, and sweetfish catching.
The next event features traditional Kushimoto-bushi dancing, a dance routine local to the area, through the town, followed by fireworks over Kushimoto Port.
The final day includes live music, bingo and two patrol-boat cruises.
Schedule 2026
On July 26, the Beach Summer Festa runs at Hashikui Beach from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On August 1, the Kushimoto-bushi group dance takes place from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., followed by fireworks at Kushimoto Port from 7:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.
On August 2, patrol-boat cruises run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
How to get there
Take the JR Limited Express Kuroshio from Osaka Station to Kushimoto Station. The festival venues are within walking distance of Kushimoto Station. The journey takes around three and a half hours, depending on the train.
