Looking for something to do in Kyoto past sunset, long after the temples and shrines have closed their doors? Check out this new night market.

What happens?

Like other night markets, the Kyoto Night Market features dozens of vendor offering food. There will also be crafts and workshops where you can try your hand at them.

Expect ninja shows, rickshaw rides, and performances as well.

Schedule 2026

The Kyoto Night Market runs five times in 2026, all at O-Higashi-san Plaza (Higashi-Honganji Temple). Here are the upcoming dates:

  • August 8–9 (Sat.–Sun.) — Sat. 4 p.m.–11 p.m.; Sun 3 p.m.–10 p.m.
  • September 12–13 (Sat.–Sun.) — 3 p.m.–10 p.m.

The August market will center on all things spooky: demons, ogres, and goblins from Japanese mythology. There wil be limited-edition food stalls, a costume contest, and a Hyakki Yagyō parade — a procession of supernatural creatures.

Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
