One of the most popular summer traditions in Japan: watching the Japanese High School Baseball Championship, or Kōshien.
What happens?
The Summer Kōshien event is an annual high-school baseball tournament, with a team from every prefecture playing, and an extra one each from Tokyo and Hokkaidō.
These are the national finals that almost all high school baseball teams aspire to. The allure and legend of Kōshien has become part of Japanese mainstream culture, appearing in movies, books, and anime.
Even if you’re not the biggest baseball fan, it’s worth checking out a match simply for the electric atmosphere.
