What happens?
The Otaru Tide Festival celebrates the town’s maritime heritage with traditional processions, portable shrine parades, and a spectacular fireworks display over the harbor.
Schedule 2026
On July 25 (Saturday), there will be a grand procession through Otaru’s streets with traditional music and dance.
On July 26 (Sunday), the portable shrine or mikoshi will be paraded through the streets, followed by fireworks over the harbor.
How to get there
Otaru is located in Hokkaidō, about 30 minutes from Sapporo by train (JR Hakodate Line). The festival events take place throughout Otaru’s historic port area.
