While the Sapporo geisha community once boasted over 300 active geisha, today only a handful remain, operating primarily out of the Susukino entertainment district. Watch Sapporo’s resilient geisha perform at the annual Sapporo Odori.
What happens?
Sapporo may be better known for its massive snow festival and tasty soup curry than geisha (traditional entertainers), but its community of performers is not one to be outdone.
The Sapporo Odori will feature Sapporo’s geisha — there are only around a dozen in total today — performing traditional songs and dances.
Schedule 2026
Sapporo Odori takes place on Saturday, November 7. There will be two sessions: from 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Tickets range in price from ¥3,000 to ¥12,000.
How to get there
Sapporo is the capital of Hokkaido, and is approximately 5 hours from Tokyo by plane or 8 hours by train.
The venue, the Sapporo Education and Culture Hall, is a 5-minute walk from Nishi 11-chōme Station (Tōzai Line). From Sapporo Station, various buses will get you in the area as well, including the 51, 55, and 61 (around 10 minutes).
