What happens?
Founded as a grassroots community effort and run by volunteers, Sapporo Rainbow Pride has become one of Japan’s major LGBTQ+ pride celebrations.
The heart of the event is a street parade through central Sapporo, typically starting at Odori Park’s sixth block (6-chome). Marchers, floats, and celebrating participants move through the downtown core, drawing spectators from across Hokkaido and beyond.
Schedule 2026
On September 26, Sapporo Rainbow Pride kicks off with a free talk celebrating the release of LGBT History Book: Japan Edition, followed by a reception marking 30 years of Sapporo’s Pride Parade. No registration is needed for the talk.
On the stage, there will be performances including eisa and an appearance by renowned drag performer Durian Lollobrigida.
The parade is scheduled to go from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
On the 27th, there will also be a drag show.
