The 2025 Shirakawa-go Winter Light-up has been announced! It will go ahead this year but reservations will be required to enter the village during the evening. Daytime visits on event days will be restricted to certain times.
Where is Shirakawago?
Shirakawago is a picturesque village in Gifu Prefecture. It is known for its traditional, triangle-shaped houses known as gasshō-zukuri.
When?
Throughout January and February there will be four light-ups on certain Sundays (and one Monday).
- January 13 (Mon.), January 19, and January 26

Entry
The only way to see the light-up will be to stay overnight (lottery system), join a local bus tour, with a tour from a travel agency — we recommend this Willer tour from Tokyo — or reserve a parking space in advance.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
