Shizuoka’s vistas have been immortalized for centuries. See Shizuoka City and various surrounding areas look extra special decked up in winter illuminations.
What happens?
The main draw is Omachi Heart Fantasy, Shizuoka’s biggest winter illumination.
The illuminations stretch nearly 500 meters along Aoba Symbol Road. Expect glowing trees, decorative light installations, and photo spots, including a heart-shaped arch.

The main illuminations go from November 21, 2025, to February 15, 2026.
There will also be stage performances on various dates, including Dec. 20 from 12:30 to 5 p.m., Jan 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Feb. 14 also from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Other winter events include the Shimizu Port “Sea Light Harbor”, which features interactive seaside lights, an illuminated maze, glowing steps, an aqua dome, and displays to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Chibi Maruko-chan — Shimizu is her hometown, after all. These illuminations go from Nov. 15 to March 1, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
There’s also the Nihondaira Night Market every fourth Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m., with food stalls, local goods, and live music.
On December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, and 31, there will also be a limited-run Christmas tree light-up at the Takayama Citizens’ Forest from 5 to 8 p.m.
