Head to Higashi-Izu for a bit of firefly magic.
What happens?
Held at Okawa Takegasawa Park in Higashi-Izu, this seasonal event is all about catching fireflies at their peak, usually from late May to early June. The park sits in a forested valley with clean water — exactly the kind of environment fireflies need — so you’re seeing them in a relatively natural setting.
Schedule
The event will be canceled in case of rain.
Last entry is set at 8:25 p.m.
Ticket
A donation of ¥300 is recommended.
How to get there
The park is about a 20-minute walk from Izu-Okawa Station on the Izu Kyūkō Line. It’s a bit of a trek from Tokyo, but doable as an overnight or onsen-side trip along the Izu coast.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
