This relaxed open-air craft fair takes place in the foothills of the Yatsugatake Mountains.
What happens?
Matsumoto, Nagano, is regarded as the heart of mingei, Japan’s influential folk craft movement. About an hour and a half from there, the Yatsugatake Craft Market celebrates the spirit of mingei, transforming a scenic mountain park into a creative village of sorts.
Dozens of artisans from across Japan gather to showcase handmade ceramics, textiles, woodwork, glass, metalwork, jewelry, and more. Meet the makers, hear the stories behind their work, and pick up one-of-a-kind items to take home.
There’s also seasonal fare prepared by local food trucks.
