Explore the brilliant and deeply personal world of Yayoi Kusama’s prints at this exhibition.
What to expect
This traveling exhibition explores the trajectory of Yayoi Kusama’s print art through approximately 330 pieces, including prints from the Matsumoto City Museum of Art in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, Yayoi Kusama’s hometown, which boasts one of the world’s largest collections of Kusama prints, as well as works from the artist’s own collection.
As one of the foremost women artists of the contemporary art world, Kusama’s work explores themes of repetition, multiplication, and the connection between art and inner experience.
From her early prints reflecting her battle with mental health to her later, more expansive works like the iconic Pumpkin series, the exhibition illustrates Kusama’s ability to turn personal struggles into mesmerizing patterns and symbols with echoes of Indigenous art traditions.
