Don’t be deceived by its traditional architecture — Atami Castle is actually one of Japan’s newer castles. Modeled after those of the Momoyama period, it primarily serves as a tourist attraction.

Inside the castle, you’ll find a permanent exhibition about the history of other castles in Japan, as well as displays of samurai swords and armor. Additionally, there is the Atami Trick Art Museum, free play facilities, and an Edo experience corner.

Situated on a hill 100 meters above sea level, the castle offers stunning views of Sagami Bay below. There’s even an ashiyu (foot bath) outside, allowing you to soak your feet while admiring the sea.
