Fuji Omuro Sengen Shrine lies on the south shore of Lake Kawaguchiko and is a tranquil shrine without too many tourists. It is said to be Mount Fuji’s oldest shrine (having been erected in 699 AD). In the 1970s, it was moved to its current location for preservation.

The shrine really comes alive in spring when the approach bursts with pink cherry blossoms. Note that there are some restrictions on photography, so please be respectful. The shrine can be accessed easily by the local sightseeing bus.

On April 29 each year, there is a famous yabusame (horseback archery) festival.
