One of Japan’s most established tea brands, Fukujuen has a small store in Kyoto Station where you can grab matcha to-go or as a souvenir.
Renowned for being experts in fine Japanese tea, Fukujuen specializes in all the teas: matcha, gyokuro, sencha, genmaicha, and hōjicha. With the main store located on Shijo-dori, Kyoto’s main shopping hub, this smaller outlet at Kyoto Station offers visitors a last chance to pick up teas before heading to the Shinkansen.
As well as packs of tea, this shop doubles as a small café (with limited seating). They sell two types of matcha drinks: Matcha Latte and Thin Matcha. Both can be ordered hot or cold. We tried a sweetened thin matcha for ¥450 and it had the perfect balance of flavors. We even got a free matcha sweet to try with our drink.
How to get there
Fukujuen Matcha House is located in ASTY Kyoto, inside Kyoto Station. The easiest way to get there is via the Shinkansen Hachijo Exit. The underground mall is well signposted and is near the East Exit.
