Jigen-in Temple is significant in many ways. Firstly, it is the oldest temple in the Senshu region, founded in 673. Secondly, it is home to the city’s only National Treasure, the Tahōtō Pagoda at Jigen-in, and the Important Cultural Property, the Main Hall (Kondō).

The Pagoda was built during the Kamakura period and is one of Japan’s Three Great Tahōtō Pagodas. It stands at just over 10 meters — it is actually Japan’s smallest pagoda of this type.

You can go inside the Main Hall for an extra ¥300 (it’s ¥200 to enter the temple). These days, advance reservations are required to go inside the Main Hall.

How to get there

To get to Jigen-in, you can either take the bus from Nankai Izumisano Station or Hineno Station (on the JR Hanwa Line). The Nankai Bus will take you to Higashiue Bus Stop, located right near to the temple.
