Lovingly known as the “Lake of the Stars”, Lake Shikaribetsu is Hokkaidō’s highest-altitude natural lake.
Located within the Daisetsuzan National Park, it offers beautiful mountain views, pristine hiking trails, boat tours, and access to the vilage of Shikaribetsu Kotan. Another popular spot along the lake is the submerged railway tracks, reminiscent of a secene from Spirited Away.
How to get there
The easiest way to reach Lake Shikaribetsu is by car. The location is about 50 minutes from JR Shintoku Station, or 60 minutes from the Doto Expressway Tokachi-Shimizu IC.
