Located inside Tennoji Park, the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts has been showcasing world-class Japanese and Chinese art since 1936. It is built on the former Sumitomo family estate. The museum was established alongside the Keitaku-en Garden, a scenic retreat gifted to the city of Osaka.
The museum’s collection covers a wide range of disciplines. Many pieces come from former private collections of Kansai business magnates, making for a uniquely diverse selection.
The main building houses special exhibitions and showcases National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties. The basement exhibit rooms host public exhibitions by various art organizations.
After over two years of renovations, the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts is set to reopen on March 1, 2025, with a fresh look, improved accessibility, and expanded exhibition spaces.
