One of the oldest onsen in Japan, Saki-no-Yu offers a distinctive bathing experience where you can sit in a rotenburo (open-air bath) right next to the ocean — combining the town’s two best features, the ocean and the onsen.
For ¥500, you can soak in open-air rock pools/baths. Sometimes the waves crash against the rocks, a striking reminder of nature’s beauty as you soak in stillness. Note that this is a tattoo-friendly onsen. You can also rent a towel for ¥200 and use a coin locker for ¥100.
How to get there
If you’re coming from Shirahama Station, take the Meikō Bus to the “Yuzaki” bus stop and walk 3 minutes.
