Shiga Gokoku Shrine honors those from Shiga Prefecture who lost their lives in war, and offers a place for those who wish to pray for world peace.
On the grounds of the shrine is the Shiga Prefectural Memorial Hall for the Heroes. Inside, you can see photographs of those who fought in various wars, as well as 20 stained-glass pieces.
As you walk away from the shrine, you will come across several monuments, including the “Mother Statue” and one dedicated to warhorses, military dogs and pigeons.

How to get there
Shiga Gokoku Shrine is located near Hikone Castle, and is a 10-minute walk away from Hikone Station in the direction of the castle.
