Iwasaki Honpo is the top place to try melt-in-your-mouth Kakuni Manju (pork belly steamed buns), one of Nagasaki’s specialties.
What’s Iwasaki Honpo (Nishi-Hamamachi)?
Known for its rich and decadent flavor, the Kakuni Manju at Iwasaki Honpo features a thick-cut pork belly and an original soy sauce broth that gives the tender bun its distinctive taste. In addition to the classic Nagasaki Kakuni Manju, you can also try a very fatty version (Otoro Kakuni Manju) or a cheese-stewed pork manju. Prices range from ¥500 to ¥750.
You can also buy frozen versions of the buns and other products with the tender pork in them at the shop.
