For an exceptional and elegant matcha experience, Tsujirihei Honten is the place to go in Uji. Famous for its high-quality tea, with a history dating back to the 19th century, this teahouse retains its classic esthetic, landscapes, and tea-making techniques.
What’s Tsujirihei Honten?
A classic teahouse, Tsujirihei Honten offers a carefully curated selection of teas and desserts. Some of the most popular include stone-ground Uji Matcha, Uji Matcha Parfait, and other traditional desserts and confections.
The prices reflect the premium quality. Teas such as genmaicha and hōjicha are priced at ¥800, while the Uji Matcha ranges from ¥900 to ¥2,000. You can also order matcha lattes, which cost ¥530.
Desserts start at ¥500 for a seasonal mont blanc and go up to ¥1,980 for the parfait.
If you’re fortunate enough to secure a seat by the front window, you can relax and enjoy the serene view of the Japanese garden. A truly Zen experience. And if you’d like to bring a taste of Tsujirihei home, the teahouse also has a shop where you can purchase matcha and a variety of sweets.
