Originally created as an annex of the Tokyo Museum of Modern Art, the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto (MoMAK) has been on its current site since 1963. The current building -- by Pritzker Prize winning architect Fumihiko Maki -- was completed in 1984. The permanent collection includes works by André Breton, Marc Chagall, Max Ernst, and Frank Lloyd Wright along with a large number of Japanese modernists. The prices listed below are for the regular collection with high school age and under getting free admission. A separate fee is charged for special exhibitions and savings can be made by booking in advance.
