A charming tea shop, with an even more charming owner. This small café and tea shop doubles as a souvenir shop too. It is a great pit stop, located a 3 minute walk from the Byakue Dai-Kannon in Takasaki.

What’s Kannon-chaya Shop like?

Half café, half souvenir shop, this charming place has a homely and traditional vibe. They offer traditional desserts, ice creams, and parfaits, as well as sweets shaped like Byakue Dai-Kannon, which make great omiyage (gifts). Most of the food items cost under ¥1,000.

The shop has been featured on Japanese TV several times, so it’s quite well known in the area. If it’s not busy, try to strike up a conversation with the lady working there; she not only has great recommendations but is also super lovely and accommodating.
