A trendy boutique-style hotel on the outside and a reformed business hotel on the inside, Hotel Pacific is a nice, if confusing base.
Remodeled with a friendly cafe and bar and the narrow ground floor, they have rental bikes and chai lattes galore, along with chatty staff and good wifi. Once you head upstairs, the business side kicks in, with the familiar bland hallways, brown carpets and small bathrooms.
It’s not without some nice touches, however: potted plants, cute shelves, tea and very, very comfortable beds welcome you in with super-soft pyjama-yukata and duvets to seal the deal. Working with what they’ve got, the hotel have upgraded the furnishings if not the rooms (hello 80s headboard control panel), and it’s more than enough for a good night’s sleep. Most rooms are Western style but there are some tatami options if you’re keen.
The location is excellent—right outside Omicho Market and with a weirdly large FamilyMart just around the corner, plus the very nice Coil restaurant a short walk away. They provide little suggestion guides for breakfast, lunch and dinner options in the area and the staff have personal favorites too.
