Expo ’70 Sakura Expo

Expo ’70 Commemorative Park is known for being one of Japan’s top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots. This year the park will be hosting a variety of sakura-themed events as part of its grand Sakura Expo.

What happens?

As well as being able to see the impressive sight of 5,500 sakura trees, you can participate in the following events:

Schedule 2024

Throughout the whole festival you can find:

  • Sakura Food Court: a place to enjoy Japanese cuisine from a total of 80 different vendors.
  • Special opening of Japanese Garden Tea Room Han-an/Mari-an. Please note that this event will only take place on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the festival.
  • Tea Ceremony. Please note that this event will only take place on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the festival.
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake / Rebirth — Fireworks & Music (Mar. 23).
  • Illumination of Cherry Blossom Trees along Highashioji (Mar. 25 to Apr. 3).
  • Sakura Special Seat: a reserved place to sit under the cherry trees and watch street performances (Mar. 25 to Apr. 3).
  • Sakura Craft Fes: a fair selling handmade cherry blossom-themed goods and other antiques (Mar. 27 to Apr. 7).

In addition to all of this, The Tower of the Sun and EXPO’70 Pavilion will extend its opening time until 7 p.m.

Tickets

Admission to the park and the following events are free:

  • Illumination of Cherry Blossom Trees along Highashioji
  • Sakura Craft Fes
  • Opening of Japanese Garden Tea Room

There are some events which you will need to pay admission for. These are:

  • Sakura Food Court: Tickets cost ¥500 for adults (includes one free drink).
  • Sakura Special Sheet: Ticket prices vary. Buy your tickets in advance here.
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth — Fireworks & Music: Tickets cost ¥8,800 and can bought on the events’ official website.
  • Tea Ceremony: Tickets cost ¥700 and includes a Japanese sweet and matcha set.

How to get there

The nearest stations to Expo ’70 Commemorative Park are Bampaku-kinen-koen Station and Koen-highashiguchi Station. Both can be accessed via the Osaka Monorail.
