The festival features the Kagami Biraki Ceremony, where a sake barrel is ceremonially opened, along with demonstrations of traditional barrel wrapping and performances of sake brewing songs, celebrating the art and culture of sake making.
History
Founded in 1637, Gekkeikan is one of Japan’s most iconic sake breweries, located in the historic district of Fushimi, Kyoto. The brewery’s rich legacy has made it a significant cultural and historical site in Japan.

The venue, the Gekkeikan Ōkura Sake Museum, is a 5-minute walk from Chushojima Station (Keihan Main Line) or a 10-minute walk from Fushimi-Momoyama Station (Keihan Main Line) and Momoyamagoryo-Mae Station (Kintetsu Kyoto Line). It is an 18-minute walk from Momoyama Station (JR Nara Line).
