Enjoy one of Yamanashi’s largest and oldest fireworks festivals on the banks of Lake Kawaguchiko. It takes place on August 5 every year.
There are several displays throughout the year, but this one is the biggest.
What happens?
Held more than 100 times over the years, the Kawaguchiko Fireworks Festival knows how to put on a party. Expect a vibrant fireworks display, street stalls for food and gifts, and even local stores getting into the festive mood. It’s the perfect way to spend a summer evening away.
Schedule 2025
Roads will be closed from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The opening ceremony will start at 7:45 p.m. with the actual fireworks starting at 7:50 p.m. and finishing around 8:40 p.m.
Where to watch the fireworks
The fireworks will be set off in the lake in front of Oike Park. The main festival and stalls will be held on the lakeside from Oike Park towards Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, but note that there will be some areas with restricted access along this strip. Main free viewing spots include Oike Park, Yagizaki Park (not the tip), Komagari Observation Plaza, Ubuyagasaki, and lakeside spots inbetween.
Reserving spots with sheets in advance is not allowed.
How to get there
With the fireworks being held in Yamanashi Prefecture, the festival is an easy day trip from Tokyo. We’ve already covered how to get from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko, so make sure to check out that article. Just head towards the lakeside once you’re there and find a spot to watch the show.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
