Wander through a kaleidoscope of autumn colors at the Kōdai-ji Temple light-up this fall.
What to expect
Kōdai-ji Temple, nestled in Kyoto’s Higashiyama Mountains, is renowned for its seasonal night illuminations. This autumn, from late October to early December, the temple’s garden transforms into a breathtaking display of lights and vibrant autumn leaves. Visitors can stroll through the illuminated grounds from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., soaking in the serene beauty of the landscape.
Kōdai-ji Temple was founded in 1605. Despite surviving multiple fires over the centuries, several of the original buildings remain intact and are now designated as Important Cultural Properties by the Japanese government.
