Looking for a cool escape this summer? Head to Hokkaido for the 25th annual Rising Sun Rock Festival. What to expect The Rising Sun Rock Festival in Ezo is Japan’s premier all-night outdoor rock fest. Running from August 16 to 17, 2024, this event takes place on the shores of Hokkaido at Ishikari Bay New Port, near Tarugawa Pier. Ezo is the old name for Hokkaido. Expect non-stop music across several stages, with performances continuing all night on the second day until the sun rises around 4 a.m. Whether you’re lying on a picnic sheet, enjoying a barbecue, or lounging on the grass, you can soak in the festival vibes any way you like. The fresh air and scenic Hokkaido backdrop, combined with numerous food stalls, make this event a must-attend. Music lovers from all over the country, including families, flock to the festival. Lineup Highlights from this year's lineup include famed Japanese alternative rock band Hitsujibungaku and best-selling four-piece rock band Spitz. Additionally, a contest was held to find two emerging bands. Rising stars Hwyl and Arata were selected to perform on the 16th and 17th respectively. How to get there From Tokyo, the best way to get to the festival is by flying into Sapporo on a low-cost carrier and then taking the train. From New Chitose Airport, head to Sapporo Station (40 minutes), then change to the subway and make for Asabu Station on the Nanboku Line (10 minutes).
