Miyoshi Nagayoshi is a samurai spectacle in the streets of Daitō City, Osaka.
What happens?
For one day only, Daitō transforms into a battlefield, as armored warriors, swordsmen, and banner-waving retainers march through town in honor of Miyoshi Nagayoshi, a 16th-century warlord.
Now in its ninth year, it is a full-scale historical experience, complete with sword-fighting demonstrations, stage performances, and a market selling local specialties. There will also be an inflatable castle for kids.
Expect plenty of photo ops, clashing steel, and a crowd that loves a bit of samurai drama.
History
Miyoshi Nagayoshi (1522–1564) was a powerful warlord who ruled over much of central Japan, including Kyoto and Osaka, before Oda Nobunaga rose to power. As leader of the Miyoshi clan, he challenged the shogunate and became one of the first samurai to govern without a shogun.
