This festival is renowned for its spectacular taiko drumming performances, featuring thousands of drummers creating a resounding symphony. Festival-goers are encouraged to join the fun and dance around the floats, making it a truly immersive experience.

Beyond the main parade, the city hosts various Sansa Odori performances, transforming Morioka into a lively hub of cultural festivities.

History

The Sansa Odori Festival has deep roots in Morioka’s history, celebrating local folklore and traditions. The festival’s name, “Sansa,” is said to derive from an ancient chant used to ward off demons. Over time, it has evolved into a grand celebration of community spirit, featuring mesmerizing dances and powerful drumming that resonate through the city streets.
