Okinawa’s biggest culture party is taking over the entire island.
What to expect
You can expect red carpet glamor, exclusive film screenings (including Shogun and the festival’s own Lady Noir), a global short drama competition, a massive music festival by the beach, and even an auctioneer school taught by a former Sotheby’s Japan president. There’ll also be a short video contest featuring all 41 of Okinawa’s cities and towns, talk shows with celebrity guests, and plenty of local food and entertainment.
Oh, and FC Ryukyu’s mascot Jinbeño will be there as the official ambassador, naturally.
If you want to get involved or snag a reward like walking the red carpet, check out the crowdfunding campaign.
Schedule 2025
On Saturday, April 5, things kick off with the opening ceremony and red carpet, followed by film screenings, talk sessions, and the first round of the World Short Drama Awards. The day ends with live performances by the beach.
Sunday, April 6, features more screenings, a showcase of the city video contest entries, and a music festival to close things out.
Note that the screenings are first-come first-serve.
How to get there
Okinawa is easy to reach from Tokyo and a few other Asian hubs. Fly into Naha Airport, then take the monorail or a taxi to central Naha. Check out our detailed guide here.
Events will be spread out across Kokusai Street, Naha Cultural Arts Theater, Tenbusu Square, and Chura Sun Beach.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
