Timed to coincide with Sapporo’s giant winter festival, Otaru’s Snow Light Path (Otaru Yuki Akari no Michi — the awkward name is a direct translation — festival is on a much more intimate scale.
What happens?
The streets and canals of this seaside city to the northwest of Sapporo will be illuminated by candlelit snow lanterns.
How to get there
Otaru can be reached via Japan Rail from Sapporo Station in just over 30 minutes.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
