One of Shuzenji’s most famous spots, the Bamboo Forest Path is a short walking path surrounded by towering bamboo trees.
What is the Bamboo Forest Path?
The path is located near the Katsura River, giving those who walk through it a chance to feel at one with nature. Though it only takes a few minutes to walk through, there is a large circular bamboo bench in the center of the forest where you can sit for a while.
If you’re planning to rent a kimono and stroll around in it during your visit, the Bamboo Forest Path makes for a beautiful backdrop.
Once the sun sets, the forest comes to life as the pathway is illuminated, and the bamboo bench transforms into an installation art piece.
After you have wandered through, enjoy some lunch at Soba and Fish Hiroshige — which offers lovely views of the bamboo.
How to get there
From Shuzenji Station, it takes 14 minutes to get to the Bamboo Forest Path. First, you will need to take the bus to Shuzenji Onsen and then get off at the stop with the same name. From there, it is a 6-minute walk.
