What happens?
The Aizu Samurai Festival transports you back to the age of samurai with its grand procession of over 500 participants dressed in the elaborate attire of the Aizu Domain’s feudal lords.
Visitors can watch live sword fights and dances by Byakkotai warriors, with the majestic Tsuruga Castle as the backdrop. Each day of the festival offers different highlights, from the lantern-lit Chochin Procession on the first night to lively bon dances and children’s parades.
The streets come alive with festival-goers dressed in traditional garb, food stalls, and various performances, making it an unforgettable experience of Aizu’s history and culture.
The festival dates back to the Edo period, honoring the feudal lords of the Aizu Domain with a magnificent parade known as the Aizu Hanko Gyoretsu.

Event highlights

How to get there
The Aizu Samurai Festival is held in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Fukushima. You can reach the festival via the JR Ban’etsu West Line, with stops at Aizu-Wakamatsu Station or Nanukamachi Station. From either station, it’s a short walk or bus ride to Tsuruga Castle and the main event locations.
