Formerly known as Iwaki Hikari no Sakura (Light Cherry Blossoms), this illumination event has been rebranded with a difficult to translate name. “Eeru” is an encouraging chant used in sports and other competitive endeavours. So the idea is that the illumination cheers locals on during tough times.
With the change in branding comes a change in colors. White and gold are now the main colors rather than pink. The light-up extends from the south exit of Iwaki Station in Fukushima.
The kickoff for the illumination usually sees a fireworks show after the lights are turned on, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, the switch-on ceremony is restricted.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
