To mark the opening of Mount Fuji climbing season, known as yamabiraki in Japanese, there will be fireworks on the shores of Lake Kawaguchiko.
What happens?
These are the earliest fireworks of the summer season in Yamanashi. While not super explosive (there are only around 2,000 fireworks lasting 30 minutes), it will be less busy than the massive fireworks festival held in August.
How to get there
Take a look at our article on how to get from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko. The best spot to see the fireworks with Fuji in the background is around Ubuyagasaki Shrine after crossing Kawaguchiko Bridge or Oishi Park — but be warned, it will be dark. The launch point is Oike Park, 20 minutes on foot from Kawaguchiko Station.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
