Chazuna, also known as the Tea and Uji Community Center, is a base where visitors from around the world can learn about Uji's history and famous tea culture. The main facilities include a museum (also known as the Uji Tea Room), workshop space, restaurant, shop, exploration and library zones, an observation terrace, and outdoor areas. While most of these spaces are free to enjoy, admission is required for the museum and workshops. Although the museum is fairly small, it's well worth a wander. Inside, you'll learn about the different types of tea, how it's made, and exactly what makes Uji tea so special. It's an engaging and interactive insight into the world of tea. You can also explore the history of Uji through various digital exhibitions. Admission is for adults and for children. Events and experiences One of the highlights of this public center is the workshop space. In an effort to bring the community together and educate on different aspects of traditional culture, Chazuna hosts a variety of experiences for visitors to enjoy. The most popular is the "Grinding Matcha Experience", where you can grind and brew your own matcha to drink. In the summer season, there is an alternative version of this workshop where you can also enjoy some special ice cream and matcha dango. Tickets range from to (which includes admission to the museum). We participated in the summer workshop in 2025, where we got to grind and brew our own matcha while enjoying some ice cream. Available in English and Japanese, this experience involves learning about the different tea leaves, how these leaves are grown, and how best enjoyed. We left with a special souvenir to take home. Other workshops include customizing your own tea can (with Japanese paper), a Zen workshop, doll painting, and much more. Prices for these start from .
