Despite the name, this parking lot is not actually the main parking lot for the Jigokudani Monkey Park. However, it provides the quickest access to the park and also to Shibu Onsen, which provides both accommodation and meals.

If you’re a nervous driver, the trip along the very narrow access road might be a bit much for you. Although barely wide enough for a single vehicle, it is in fact a two-way road, which means you might need to reverse to let an oncoming vehicle through. Additionally, the access road is closed during winter.

From the parking lot, the walk to the monkey park only takes 15 minutes. It’s along a rough, but passable, dirt track, so it can be slippery in wet weather.
