Kumoji Crossing

A regular crossing 99% of the time, one day in October, this is the site of Okinawa’s great tug-of-war.

As an aid to prosperity, the tug-of-war has become a battle between east and west and holds the Guinness World Recird the largest rope made of rice straw. The rope weighs just over 31 metric tonnes, is 172m long and a diameter of 1m and 54cm and the event draws crowds of over 275,000 people to the crossing.
