A square in the middle of Nagasaki’s Chinatown, this area is a place for relaxation and is often frequented by workers on lunch breaks and older chess players. During the lantern festival however it is a bustling festival hub with stalls, lanterns (of course) and plenty of entertainment like snake and lion dances. As the main venue it is the best place to visit during the festival and will be transformed into a beautiful area of Chinese heritage, if only for a few days. There are a number of gates which remain throughout the year and leave you in no doubt as to which part of Nagasaki you’re in.
