Established under the aegis of Aritomo Yamagata, the Murin-an Garden was designed by landscaping genius Jihei Ogawa in the late 1890s. The design is that of the classical Meiji Period Japanese ‘promenade garden,’ and the garden is a carefully curated formal environment. The park runs short-format landscaping classes and moss gardening experiences every weekend.

For an extra ¥1,000 you can also enjoy tea with a sweet or snack and contemplate the garden from a beautiful old Japanese villa with tatami flooring.
