Unir is a specialty coffee roaster famous in Kansai, with five branches mainly scattered throughout Kyoto and one in Osaka. The Kyoto shop, in particular, is the perfect setting for an early morning breakfast or a late afternoon coffee.
What’s Unir – Kyoto Shop?
This particular branch is located roughly 5 minutes away from Kyoto Station and is part of Hotel Androoms. Bright and contemporary, it has a laidback ambiance. It’s ideal for relaxing with your coffee, or doing some remote work (thanks to the free Wi-Fi).
If the ambience doesn’t persuade you, the menu should. For drinks, you can find all your classics including espresso (¥400), café latte (¥600) and even coffee matcha latte (¥800). If you’re not in the mood for coffee, you can also order hot tea (¥600), or a variety of soft drinks (¥520).
Breakfast
Although there are only three breakfast sets to choose from, they are all amazing, offering the perfect balanced start to your morning. The choices include a Mashed Potato Eggs Benedict Style Breakfast (for ¥1,350), Melting Croque Madame Morning Set (¥1,350), and The Ultimate Egg Roll Set Meal (¥1,890).
On our visit, we tried the Melting Croque Madame Morning Set and were thoroughly impressed. This hearty meal included not only a croque madame but tofu, salad, yoghurt, juice and coffee to get the morning off to a good start. One of the best value breakfasts we have had in Kyoto.
Lunch
There are a few different lunch options, with the most notable including an Overflowing Macaroni and Cheese Burger Set and Japanese-style curry with Pork Shabu. Prices start at around ¥1,000 for lunch dishes. You can also enjoy savory breads including the Melty Croque Monsieur and an Open-Salmon Sandwich (both priced at ¥900 each).
In the afternoon, you can also enjoy delicious sweets, including Espresso Toast (¥690) and a Matcha Tiramisu (¥590).
What to know before you visit Unir – Kyoto Shop?
Do you need reservations for Unir – Kyoto Shop?
You can make a reservation for breakfast (7 a.m. to 9 a.m.) or lunch (11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). However, note that for breakfast, you can only reserve your food, not a seat, as hotel guests also dine here.
You don’t necessarily need a reservation for a seat, so you can just walk in. We visited early in the morning on a weekday and easily got a seat. Keep in mind that on weekends or holidays, it may be more difficult to secure one.
