The Nintendo Museum's opening date has finally been announced and Nintendo fans around the world are getting hyped. And with good reason: This secretive project was kept firmly under wraps after it was first announced in June 2021. But we finally have a date for the opening of the Nintento Museum in Kyoto -- March 2024. Here's everything we know so far -- 3, 2, 1, go! What will the Nintendo Museum be like? From what we've seen so far, the Nintendo Museum will follow in the footsteps of the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo. It will have displays of old consoles, games, and other products from Nintendo's history. We might even be treated to behind-the-scenes material. When it was first announced, the Nintendo Museum was tentatively called the "Nintendo Gallery", so that might give you some idea of what to expect. At the moment, we don't know if there'll also be a game arcade, any rides, or a shop. When will the Nintendo Museum open? The Nintendo Museum will open in March 2024. We can expect a specific date closer to the time. When it was first announced, it was slated to open late in the 2023 financial year. In Japan the financial year ends on March 31, so it seems that everything is going according to schedule. Where will the Nintendo Museum be? The Nintendo Museum is being built at the old Nintendo Uji Ogura Plant in Uji City, Kyoto. In the past, Nintendo used this factory to make trading cards, as well as repairing toys and consoles, so it's definitely a suitable venue. Uji is part of the wider Kyoto area -- about 30 minutes south of Kyoto City by train. Uji is also famous for matcha green tea production. It's a great day trip from Kyoto or even Osaka. Many recently opened attractions sell tickets online, though, so it's highly likely that Nintendo will follow suit. Check back for more details closer to the opening date! Other Nintendo attractions in Japan If you're visiting Japan in the meantime, there are lots of other ways to get your Nintendo fix. If you're in Osaka, there's Super Nintendo World that opened at Universal Studios Japan in 2021. And definitely don't miss the Nintendo Stores, you can find them in Tokyo and Osaka. Of course, there's also the infamous "Mario Kart" go-kart tours, available both in Tokyo and Osaka. While the street karts are not at all an official Nintendo activity, they do allow you to zoom through the streets in costume, which is fun. While we do our best to ensure it’s correct, information is subject to change. Last updated on September 26, 2023 by Maria Danuco.
