The Ashikaga Flower Park Illumination event happens every year and is ranked as one of the best illuminations in Japan — for a country that prides itself on its winter illuminations, this is quite an accolade.
What happens?
More than 5 million lights spread across the gardens of Ashikaga Flower Park in Ashikaga City. Across the months of the festival, there will be three separate themes, usually incorporating Christmas and New Year into the fun. There is also a restaurant, flower shop, and plenty of souvenirs.
Tickets
Tickets for adults cost ¥1,400 and for children ¥700.
Note that daytime fees can be different.
Schedule
The illuminations go from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. (until 9 p.m. on weekends and holidays).
The park will be closed on the third Wednesday and Thursday of February, and December 31.
How to get there from Tokyo
Ashikaga Flower Park can be accessed from Tokyo using several routes and even has its own station, Ashikaga Flower Park Station on the JR Ryōmō Line.
If you have a JR Pass, the best way is to get the Tōhoku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station To Oyama Station. From there, switch to the JR Ryōmō Line and get off at Ashikaga Flower Park Station. The journey takes nearly 2 hours.
An alternative and cheaper route is to either use the Ryōmō Limited Express from Asakusa Station direct to Ashikagashi Station and then walk 13 minutes to Ashikaga Station and change to the JR Ryōmō Line (2 hours); or change go to Tochigi Station via the Nikko-Kinugawa Line and change to the JR Ryōmō Line.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.Add to Calendar
