A free museum with two former footsoldier homes transplanted from their original locations.
The museum has nicely maintained homes once belonging to the Shimizu and Takanishi families. One was lived in until 1994 before it was donated to the museum, and today the homes are used to teach visitors about the lives of Kanazawa’s footsoldiers. Unlike many cities where these lower-ranking soldiers were given terraced houses to livw in, in Kanazawa they were given detached homes with independent gardens.
